Portland's schools have gone head-to-head at the Andrew Simpson Centre's annual autumn regatta, welcoming young sailors onto the waves to earn their racing stripes.
Sponsored by 180 Fitness, the regatta is run over two days with races for under and over 11s and gives confident sailors the chance to take the next step in their journey on the water.
Instructors were on hand with advice and support throughout the three races to help participants start sailing with speed and get to the finish line.
Centre Manager at ASC Portland Nathan Bloss said: “We were so impressed by the skill we saw out on the water. Now in its fourth year, the regatta is made to challenge those who are already strong sailors and take their abilities to the next level with support close by should they need it. It’s a space where they can learn from their mistakes and grow in confidence.”
Roger Morris from Walhampton School said: “We came along because the kids love taking part in regattas here, sailing the boats and getting to experience the home of British sailing. They loved it – they had a great day today.”
The team wrapped up the day with a bite to eat on the shore and a prize-giving ceremony to celebrate another successful day on the waves.
