The Performance Academy Sailing Scholarship (PASS) provides opportunities for pathway sailors to access subsidised additional training and support through the Performance Academy programmes.

Awarded annually, the scholarship provides access to subsidised coaching and training through the Andrew Simpson Performance Academy. The programme supports sailors based on both their commitment to development and alignment with the Andrew Simpson Foundation’s values:

Inclusivity, enjoyment, community, development, inspiring, partnerships.

Key deliverables

Each recipient receives support worth up to £1,500, with training tailored to their needs and competition goals.

Access to subsidised high-performance coaching

Scholarship recipients benefit from expert coaching at reduced cost, enabling consistent access to elite-level training that may otherwise be financially out of reach.

Development of advanced sailing skills and racing techniques

The programme focuses on refining technical skills and race strategy, helping young sailors elevate their on-water performance and tactical decision-making.

Support with training plans, fitness, and competition preparation

Athletes receive holistic support that includes personalised training schedules, fitness guidance, and practical advice for peak performance at events.

Guidance around careers in sailing, coaching, or the marine sector.

PASS encourages long-term progression by offering mentorship and insight into professional pathways within the wider marine and sports industries.

By reducing financial barriers and nurturing personal and professional growth, the programme helps shape confident, skilled athletes ready to thrive in sport and beyond. So far, 16 sailors have been supported through the PASS programme.

It was so great to have such a sailing-packed long summer after finishing my GCSEs in June. Over the summer I had my first experiences racing in international fleets, first at Kiel Week and at a Europa cup and then at the ILCA 6 Youth Europeans! I really enjoyed the experiences and really feel like it has helped me improve my starts, race craft and overall experience.
