We worked with Oceana UK as creative partners to bring Trawled & Mauled to life – a major report examining the impact of bottom trawling within marine protected areas designated for seabirds and cetaceans.
Oceana’s analysis found that bottom trawling is taking place within marine protected areas intended to safeguard some of the UK’s most important habitats and wildlife, including puffins and harbour porpoises. One harbour porpoise sanctuary recorded more than 30,000 hours of apparent bottom trawling in a single year.
With a wealth of complex research, data and evidence to communicate, our role was to turn the report into something that felt engaging, accessible and visually compelling, without compromising its credibility as a serious piece of research.

We developed the report’s visual language from the ground up, combining bold editorial typography, striking marine photography, illustrated details and clear, considered data visualisation. Maps and statistics were designed to make complex findings easier to navigate, while carefully structured layouts create moments of impact throughout the report.
The result is a report that presents the evidence clearly and brings the story to life, helping readers understand the scale of the issue and why protecting these habitats matters.
