Royal Navy Sailing Association

The RNSA operates across the UK and aims to get Service men and women of all sailing abilities actively engaged in our sport. They passionately believe sailing is an ideal vehicle for improving personal skills and military efficiency. They organise sailing into the core disciplines of yachting (both racing and cruising), dinghy sailing and windsurfing and have a fantastic active sailing and social programme.

In partnership with the Andrew Simpson Foundation, RNSA is working to widen access to sailing for children and young people from Royal Navy families. This partnership brings together the RNSA’s deep-rooted maritime values with ASF’s mission to transform lives through sailing and watersports. By aligning purpose and expertise, we are developing programmes that are both inclusive and aspirational, equipping young people with the tools to thrive on and off the water.

The RNSA Youth Crew is a flagship example of this collaboration in action. Delivered by the Andrew Simpson Foundation and funded by Greenwich Hospital, the programme provides young people aged 9–14 with regular opportunities to learn to sail, build confidence, and connect with peers from Naval backgrounds. From technical skill-building to personal development, the initiative is designed to remove barriers to access while celebrating the unique experiences of military families. Together, we’re creating meaningful opportunities that support wellbeing, skill development, and a stronger sense of community through the power of sailing.

I am so excited about this opportunity to encourage sailing by Service personnel and their families. The Youth Crew programme sits alongside our Sail Together initiative as we work to embed sailing and its many benefits as a life-long pastime for the Naval community. I am hugely grateful to Greenwich Hospital for their funding and energy, the RYA for their strong support and to Andrew Simpson Foundation for their expertise and close partnership work.”
