Athena Pathway

Athena Pathway is a groundbreaking initiative founded by Olympic gold medallist Hannah Mills OBE to accelerate diversity, inclusion, and performance in sailing and wider maritime sports. Athena aims to create clear, accessible pathways for talented female athletes and young people from underrepresented backgrounds to reach the highest levels of competition, including the America’s Cup and SailGP. Through world-class training, mentorship, and community outreach, Athena Pathway is shaping the next generation of leaders on and off the water.
The Athena Pathway and the Andrew Simpson Performance Academy have united to create new opportunities for young people to thrive in sailing and maritime sports. This is a commitment to breaking down barriers, growing participation, and developing the next generation of diverse talent, both on and off the water.
This partnership focuses on increasing access to sailing for young people from all backgrounds, supporting personal development, and nurturing world-class performance pathways. By combining Athena Pathway’s mission to accelerate diversity and performance with the Andrew Simpson Foundation’s expertise in grassroots engagement and training, we aim to inspire confidence, build skills, and promote healthier, more active lifestyles. Our Performance Academy delivers elite-level training to aspiring athletes, helping them progress from grassroots participation to high-performance competition.
We believe sailing should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience. By partnering with the Andrew Simpson Foundation Performance Academy, we’re creating pathways that empower young people to dream big, learn essential life skills, and contribute to a stronger, more inclusive sailing community.”
