To mark the SailGP event taking place in Portsmouth, we were proud to host a fantastic evening a top the Spinnaker Tower, where we welcomed an array of partners, supporters, guests and elite sailors celebrating the theme of ‘Champions Meet Change’.
This exclusive drinks and canapé reception helped to communicate the powerful role of collaboration in transforming lives through sailing and watersports and was a heartfelt thank you; to recognise our collective impact for those inspired, empowered, and supported by our shared commitment to youth development and access to the water.
Hosted by the ever so engaging Dr Iain Percy and Freddie Carr, an all-star panel saw some of SailGP’s top athletes in a Q&A discussing key moments in their sailing careers.
Members from multiple SailGP teams partook, including Tash Bryant & Chris Draper from the Australia SailGP Team, Kyle Langford from Red Bull Italy SailGP Team, Hannah Mills of Emirates SailGP Team, Giles Scott Canada SailGP Team and Nicolai Sehested of Denmark SailGP Team. We heard first-hand how sport is being used to break down barriers and create new pathways for young people across the UK.
We were also joined by some of the remarkable young people whose journeys are being shaped by our community outreach. Pupils from Sail Training Trust and community programmes with Andrew Simpson Centres took to the spotlight, sharing their favourite moments along their sailing journeys so far. The young people included Lilly, Horatio, Connor, Alison, Nicola, Stanley, Ollie – who were all phenomenal at answering questions from the room and the SailGP athletes.
Will Keyser, Sail Training Trust Chief Instructor shared: “It was amazing to see the young people represent STT, their schools, and most importantly themselves so well.
“They engaged with the stakeholders with a new confidence and were a highlight of the evening for everyone in attendance.”
