Looking Ahead: Our Next Chapter in Birmingham
By Andrew Simpson Foundation
1 April, 2026
Following extensive discussions regarding the most effective future delivery model to support our work in Birmingham, the Andrew Simpson Foundation is evolving from a direct delivery model to a partner-supported approach.
This transition reflects our commitment to ensuring our resources are deployed in the most impactful and sustainable way. By working with a network of trusted delivery partners, we can focus more of our funding, expertise and energy on reaching communities across Birmingham and the surrounding region who will benefit most from our programmes.
Over the past five years, ASF has invested approximately £185,000 of charitable funding into activity in Birmingham, enabling thousands of individuals to access sailing and watersports who may not otherwise have had the opportunity. Alongside this, longstanding local programmes such as RNSA Youth Crew continue to play an important role in providing opportunities for young people in the area. We remain committed to continuing to invest in the region as part of this evolved model.
A key priority throughout this transition is continuity. The Wavemakers programme will continue, supported by recently secured multi-year funding, ensuring ongoing opportunities for young people. We will also continue to support progression into youth classes and longer-term pathways within the sport.

Looking ahead, we will work with partners across the region to deliver high-quality, inclusive programmes, maintaining a strong presence in Birmingham while increasing reach, resilience and long-term sustainability.
We are incredibly grateful for the positive relationships built with Bartley Sailing Club, local families and community stakeholders, as well as key partners including Sport England and the Royal Yachting Association. Their support has been instrumental in the impact achieved to date.
We are grateful to all those who support ASF’s work in Birmingham and look forward to continuing to work with partners and communities as we move into this next phase.
