The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation’s Fundraising Gala Dinner held at the brand new Land Rover BAR base in Portsmouth, UK raised more than £65,000, for the international Sailing charity set up in memory of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson.
The dinner took place on Wednesday 22nd July and was attended by HRH The Princess Royal, America’s Cup organisers, skippers and sailors and many friends of Andrew Simpson ahead of the America’s Cup World Series event in Portsmouth.
The guests heard about the work of the Foundation over the past 2 years from founding trustees Sir Ben Ainslie and Iain Percy and there was entertainment provided by a Q&A with Sir Russell Coutts, Dean Barker, Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy OBE, Jimmy Spithill, Franck Cammas and Ray Davies.
Sir Ben commented “It was fantastic to be able to host the first official event at Land Rover BAR for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation. The venue looked amazing and we were delighted to host so many friends of Bart and the Foundation. The evening was a great success and we raised an incredible amount of money to be able to continue the amazing work of the Foundation”
Iain Percy added “We were so delighted to host the first fundraising dinner in the UK at Ben’s new amazing base here in Portsmouth where Bart and I spent many years sailing. We would like to thank everyone that donated auction items to both the silent and main auction which helped us raise over £65,000 on the night. We have been so touched by the ongoing support and we are really looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months brings”.
