Chelsea was aged 7 when she started sailing and very quickly fell in love with the sport. Her passion for sailing grew as she grew, but it was when she took part in Bart’s Bash 2014 that her love for the sport was cemented forever. Chelsea was very keen to be involved and took part in the event, sailing a Flying 11.
Chelsea says: “Bart’s Bash is an extraordinary event. To be part of such a worthy cause that touches the lives of so many in the sailing world is a privilege. It is an amazing experience to see people out there, sailing in small dinghies right up to larger yachts, and from all levels of sailing experience sharing this special day.”
One of the main raffle prizes at Bart’s Bash was to sail on an FX with Olympic Gold Medallists Nathan Outtridge and Ian Jenson. Chelsea could not believe her luck when she discovered that she had won this incredible opportunity. Once arrangements had been made for a date when the boys were back in the country, there was little talk of anything else. Not only was Chelsea going to sailing on an FX but she was going to meet and sail on the FX with Olympic Gold Medallists! On the day of the event the weather was perfect. Chelsea’s smile didn’t leave her face for the entire day. For the passionate young sailor, this was the experience of a lifetime and one that will remain with her for the rest of her life.
Thanks to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, Chelsea has developed the determination and confidence to continue her sailing career both crewing and helming the Flying 11. Now, she has her sights firmly set on sailing on a 29er and then an FX and only time will tell what she manages to achieve in her sailing career.
