Bart’s Bash has just got much, much bigger!

Following a phenomenal response from the worldwide sailing community, the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation’s Bart’s Bash has just got much, much bigger.  Not only is the intention now to open the race to many different types of boat including dinghies, yachts and multihulls, but it is now expected that the ASSF Bart’s Bash will be a truly global event, with sailors across continents able to compete in a 24 hour period to achieve a Guinness world record, raise money for the ASSF, promote sailing and honour the memory of this much loved and missed inspirational man.

Within three days of the announcement of the ASSF Bart’s Bash, more than 60,000 people had seen the information on The Bart Project facebook page, more than 700 had shared it and within 5 days over 100 clubs from around the world had signed up for the event.  As a result of this overwhelming interest and further enquiries, organisers have changed their plans and are no longer hoping just to stage ‘This has the potential to become one of the largest sporting participation events in the world’ ‘The largest dinghy sailing event in the world’, but are expanding their ambition and seeking the support of the sailing community to break the world record for ‘the largest sailing race in the world ever’. This event is quickly exhibiting the potential to become one of the largest sporting participation events in the world.  Discussions are ongoing with the Guinness World Record organisation and the exact wording and record/s will be announced later this year, however if you have a boat/club and want to sail in support of the aims of the race and be a part of the world record, everyone is now invited!

To sign your club up, email tim@bartsbash.co.uk or visit the website at www.bartsbash.co.uk.  A full list of ‘ASSF Bart’s Bash’ participating clubs can be found at www.bartsbash.co.uk. Keep spreading the word using the hashtag #sailonbart

We will be exhibiting on stand E144 at the London Boat Show and will be happy to discuss ideas with anyone and receive feedback or offers or support.  This event is going to rely upon word of mouth and so the organisers will be delighted to say hello to anyone interested in supporting Bart’s Bash.
